The Choir

Ramsey Choral Society originated as an ad hoc group of singers who performed at the Ramsey Arts Festival in 1989 as the Ramsey Festival Choir. Since then the choir has become an established part of the Ramsey scene giving three concerts per year in local venues. Currently there are about 35 members with a good balance between the sections but new members are always welcome. The repertoire is mostly drawn from smaller scale works but nevertheless covers the complete range of choral music from 16th Century to the present day. For most concerts we use organ or electric piano for accompaniment but every two years or so we will engage a professional orchestral group. Soloists may be drawn from the choir, or be local professionals. From time to time we include other local music groups including schools in our concerts.

Our Musical Director Tansy Castledine works hard to help members improve their singing skills as well a producing polished performances from the group. We rehearse most weeks in school term-time including half-term weeks.

Our Musical Director is a paid professionals so to meet those costs plus the hall hire and hire of music we have an annual subscription (£150 in 2018/19). This is payable in installments if members so wish. Membership is free for those in full-time education. We also offer half-price membership for the performing year (September–July) for those who are no longer studying but are under the age of 26 on 1st September of any year.

We welcome prospective members coming to rehearsals for two or three weeks before making a commitment to join. Contact us for more details.
